The short answer

Walk the Pipeline Trail, ride the zip lines and hanging bridges at Boquete Tree Trek, tour a coffee farm, and soak in the Caldera hot springs. The Volcán Barú summit has been closed since 7 July 2026 after a landslide, so check before you plan that hike.

Volcán Barú (closed since July 2026)

On 7 July 2026 the environment ministry, MiAmbiente, closed the route to the summit, on foot and for 4x4 tours, after a landslide at kilometre 10 of the Camiseta road. No reopening date was given, and we have found no reopening notice since. Check MiAmbiente or local news before you go.

When it is open, the summit trail from Boquete is about 13.5 km each way with 1,700 m of climbing, takes 6–8 hours round trip, and has no water on the way. Entrance fees quoted in different sources disagree, so confirm the current fee at the gate.

Sendero Los Quetzales

This trail crosses the national park from the Bajo Mono side of Boquete to the Cerro Punta side. Storm damage closed it in 2025; MiAmbiente reopened it on 28 November 2025, with entry from 5am. It has closed in the wet season before, so check that it is open before you set off. Sources disagree on its length, so we do not give one.

The Pipeline Trail

An easier walk: about 3 km, low to moderate difficulty, starting at Bajo Mono and following a river to a waterfall. Tourism Panama quoted an entrance of about $3 and guided tours at about $35–40 per person in early 2026.

Zip lines and hanging bridges

Boquete Tree Trek is an adventure park on a 40-hectare reserve in Palo Alto, about 7.4 km from the town centre. It runs a long "Superman" zip line of up to 1,450 m, a canopy tour of 12 cables, a hanging-bridges walk across six bridges, and coffee, rum and honey tours. Its website does not list prices, so ask when you book.

Coffee farm tours

Many coffee farms around Boquete show visitors round. Tourism Panama listed these, with early-2026 prices:

  • Finca Lérida, Los Naranjos: a 1 hour 45 minute tour, a 45-minute tasting, and a Geisha coffee experience.
  • Finca Arco Iris, Los Naranjos: about $30–60.
  • Cafeto Arábica Farm, Palmira: about $45.
  • Finca La Milagrosa, Jaramillo: about $65.
  • Don Pachi Estate, Los Naranjos: private tour about $75.
  • Finca Mamecillo, Jaramillo: $160–220 for six hours with lunch.
  • Finca Dos Jefes, a small organic farm above town, runs guided visits — book through its website.

Caldera hot springs

Caldera, a district of Boquete, has natural hot springs. There is no official website; a small cash entry fee is collected on site, so bring change. A taxi is the simplest way there.

The Boquete Library

The Fundación Biblioteca de Boquete on Avenida Belisario Porras in Bajo Boquete is a good rainy-afternoon base: reading and work areas, WiFi, a café, occasional free classes, and children’s storytime in English and Spanish. It is open Monday to Friday 9am–5pm and Saturday 9am–4pm.

The flower and coffee fair

The Feria de las Flores y del Café is Boquete’s yearly festival, held each January. The 2026 fair ran from 7 to 18 January, with entry at $2.50. Dates for 2027 have not been announced yet.
