The short answer

Daily life in Boquete centres on Bajo Boquete, the town centre: supermarkets, cafés, the library and the bus to David are all there. Most newcomers rent first, often for $400–650 a month, get around by bus and cheap taxis, shop at the Tuesday and Thursday markets, and meet people through community talks, group hikes and volunteering.

Where to live

Bajo Boquete, the town centre, is the easiest place to live without a car. You can walk to the Super Barú and Romero supermarkets, the David bus leaves from town, and taxis within town cost $2–3.

Volcancito, on the hillside just above town, is greener and quieter and still a short taxi ride away. Jaramillo, Los Naranjos and Palmira are the most rural and the wettest, inside the misty "bajareque" zone. Alto Boquete runs along the main road to David, with good bus links and the Thursday market, but more traffic noise.

Getting around

The David–Boquete bus runs about every 20–30 minutes from early morning to around 9pm. Taxis are cheap within town, and local buses serve the surrounding areas until the early evening.
