The short answer

Boquete Meats sells 100% grass-fed, grass-finished beef from Boquete farms and ships Monday to Friday. Farm milk comes from small dairies, mostly by private arrangement, because Panamanian law requires a health licence to sell milk. For produce, use the Tuesday and Thursday markets or pre-order from Ana’s Veggies; the Volcán and Cerro Punta highlands grow about 80% of Panama’s vegetables.

Grass-fed beef

Boquete Meats sells 100% grass-fed, grass-finished beef from Boquete farms, plus pork, chicken and eggs. Cuts run at about $13–15.50 a kilo, boxes at $80–170, and orders ship Monday to Friday with tracking. Ask them whether they deliver to your address in Boquete or offer farm pickup — their site does not say.

Raw milk and the law

Under Law 60 of 1977, producing, distributing or selling milk requires a licence from MINSA, the health ministry, and MINSA states that dairy products must be made from pasteurised milk. There is no licensed retail channel for raw drinking milk; in practice people buy farm milk by private arrangement with a small dairy. If in doubt, pasteurise or boil it yourself.

Where to find farm milk

  • Finca El Recreo: fresh whole cow’s milk in returnable glass bottles, with a weekly combo (two milks, yoghurt, cheese and eggs) for $23 and free delivery to David, Boquete and nearby towns. Ask whether the milk is raw or pasteurised.
  • Milky Way Creamery (Palmira Abajo): organic goat cheeses, yoghurt, kefir and milk, sold at the Tuesday Market. Ask whether the milk is raw.
  • Finca La Cabrita (La Acequia, near Dolega): pastured goats, with goat milk raw or pasteurised listed at $2.75 a litre on the Real Milk directory. The listing is undated, so confirm before you go.

Fresh produce

The Tierras Altas around Volcán and Cerro Punta grow about 80% of Panama’s vegetables, so produce is cheap and close to the farm. In Boquete, the Tuesday and Thursday markets and Ana’s Veggies pre-orders are the easiest options; in David, Merca David sells fruit and vegetables at low prices on weekday mornings.
