Boquete has two seasons. December to April is dry and often windy, with the strongest winds from January to March. May to November is wet, with afternoon storms that usually last no more than a couple of hours, and September to November is typically the wettest stretch. Daytime highs sit around 23–24 °C all year.
Two seasons
The dry season runs from December to April and the wet season from May to November, with April and November as the changeover months. In the wet season, thunderstorms tend to arrive in the afternoon and are usually over within a couple of hours, so mornings are often clear.
Month by month
Rainfall swings a lot from one year to the next, so treat these as the usual pattern rather than a promise.
- December to March: dry, sunny spells and strong northerly winds, strongest in January, February and March.
- April: the changeover — the first rains usually arrive.
- May to August: wet season, with afternoon storms.
- September to November: typically the wettest months; November starts the turn back to dry.
The numbers
Long-term averages from Weather2Travel put daytime highs at 23–24 °C every month and night-time lows between 15 °C (February) and 17 °C (May to October). February is the driest month, at about 70 mm of rain over 10 rainy days, and October the wettest, at about 525 mm over 23 days. August has the most rainy days, at 24.
Years differ widely. At the Palmira Arriba weather station above town, the wettest October since 2007 brought about three times the rain of the driest.
Bajareque: the dry-season mist
In the dry season the northerly winds can carry moisture from the Caribbean over the mountains. It arrives as bajareque, a fine but very wet mist, mostly in the higher areas, Los Naranjos, Jaramillo and Bajo Boquete. It is the main reason a "dry" day can still leave you damp.
Cooler than the lowlands
David, the nearest city, sits at about 200 feet; the road up to Bajo Boquete climbs to about 3,500 feet. Boquete Weather reports it is often about 20 °F (11 °C) cooler in Bajo Boquete than in David.
There is no official weather station in Boquete itself, only private ones of varying quality, so claims that one neighbourhood is drier or sunnier than another are unmeasured. We will not rank areas by rainfall until there is data.
